IT'S THE EIGHTH ANNUAL ZOMBOSCARS!

Image
It's time for the eighth annual Zomboscars, where the Movie Zombie makes his selections for the year's outstanding achievements in cinema. I operate using the same categories you will find on the Academy Awards, and any film that had its primary theatrical release, either in the United States (for films I saw during my tenure there) or in Ireland (since September 28, when I arrived in the country), are eligible for consideration. One notation:  You will notice that War On Everyone , initially selected as one of my Best Picture nominees on my last blog, covering my ten best films of 2017, is no longer mentioned among the selections on this countdown. This film has unfortunately fallen prey to one of the perils of being a non-professional film critic...namely, that I don't always get to see everything I would like to in as timely a fashion as I would want. As a result, sometimes pictures get displaced in my top 10 after the "Best Of" article (which always goes o

Hello, all, and welcome to the Movie Zombie's first entry here on our new home at Schitznel with Noodles! Since 2008, my original blog  has presented my picks for the ten best films of each year, with an occasional foray, when the movies are bad enough to call for it, into the worst pictures of the year as well. But this time out, in the spirit of really kicking things off on the new blog right, I'm presenting my 2017 best-of as a slightly early Christmas present to all of you. A note to bear in mind, as always: This list constitutes the best films released theatrically in 2017 that I have seen as of this writing.  Not being either a) a wholly full-time film critic, or b) a man with unlimited funds, there are some pictures that are showing up on a lot of people's top tens that I have yet

Hello, and welcome to Schnitzel With Noodles! No, this is not a new cooking blog (but sometimes it might be about food...more on this in a moment). The odds of me actually writing about schnitzel here at any point in the future is unlikely-bordering-on-laughable. Hell, I've never even tasted schnitzel, though from what I know about it, I'd probably like it fine. Nor is this a blog about The Sound of Music , even though I definitely have stories to tell, not just about the film, but about my own appearance in my high school production of the musical, in which I played Rolf, the delivery boy and eldest-Von-Trapp-daughter crush who goes native...if "native" is a hip shortened term for "National Socialist." Fun fact: Bicycles and waltz choreography do not mix as smoothly as one might expect. Additional fun fact: There are few experiences to match the awkwardness of starring in The Sound of Music  and being the only Gentile cast as a Nazi. No, this blog
